Libben were asked to support a Skip Company in the West Midlands

Libben were asked to support a skip company in the Midlands following enforcement action by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), a total 6 Improvement Notices were issued.

One was regarding the uncertainty of either unknown dust or even asbestos would be emptied into the skip yard for sorting by hand.

The HSE advised that FFP3 grade face masks were 'face fitted' and worn by operatives. They also advised that operatives would need to be cleanly shaven when wearing the masks and that they all received asbestos awareness training regularly too. Being cleanly shaven whilst wearing ‘face fit’ masks don’t just cover the construction industry!

Obviously, Libben put in place appropriate safe systems of work and provided both 'face fit' testing and asbestos awareness training for all operatives.

The HSE subsequently were happy with the actions taken and withdrew all notices previously issued.

Libben can provide you with courses that can prevent this sort of thing happening to you, Health & Safety Awareness, Asbestos Awareness, Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme, Site Management Safety Training Scheme and much more. We also offer Consultancy services, Enforcement action support and documentation reviews such as policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
