Who Should Attend

Those appointed as a first-aider to give emergency first aid to someone who is injured or becomes ill while at work. It is also to apply first aid to a range of specific injuries and illnesses.



A maximum of 12 delegates are allowed and must be a minimum of 14 years of age and a certificate can be offered to all, subject to assessment. A delegate cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16, and then it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that the student is suitable for that role. The certificate will expire as dated on the certificate, irrespective of age.

  • Module 6 Primary Survey
  • Module 7 Secondary Assessment
  • Module 8 The Respiratory System
  • Module 9 Resuscitation and AED (including use of Automated External Defibrillators)
  • Module 10 Disorders of Respiration
  • Module 11 Disorders of the Circulation
  • Module 12 Wounds and Bleeding
  • Module 13 Epilepsy
  • Module 14 Minor Burns and Scalds
  • Module 15 Foreign Objects and unit closure


Day 2

  • Module 1 Introduction
  • Module 2 Recap on primary survey and secondary assessment
  • Module 3 Bones, joints and muscle injuries
  • Module 4 Head and spinal injuries
  • Module 5 Chest and abdominal injuries Summative assessment


Day 3

  • Module 6 Specialised burn injuries
  • Module 7 Eye injuries
  • Module 8 Poisoning
  • Module 9 Anaphylaxis
  • Module 10 Major illnesses
  • Module 11 Unit 2 closure Summative assessment
  • Module 12 Effects of extreme heat and cold (Additional Module if relevant)



Successful qualification on this course is based on practical assessments conducted throughout the course and written test papers each day. A three year Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Level 6 in Scotland) will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required.

All delegates will be given an up to date First Aid manual for their personal use.
