Wherever you choose to spend Christmas this year, at home with friends and family, at work or maybe relaxing alone you can always find the magic in Christmas. Do you enjoy a tipple or two over the festive period?

Christmas and work parties, family get-togethers, girls’ or boys’ nights out, you can see why alcohol intake increases throughout December. According to new data from Confused.com, an average of 179 motorists were caught over the legal limit behind the wheel every day in December 2017.

December alone accounted for 10% of the year’s drink driving offences. It shows a total of 57,613 motorists were caught drink-driving last year (2017). This is up 2% from 2016. Men are five times more likely to be caught drink driving, last year 34,886 men were caught over the legal limit compared to 7,061 women.

Top five regions for drink-driving offences in 2017:

North West – 10,121 offences

South East – 8,416 offences

Scotland – 5,765 offences

West Midlands – 5,332 offences

South West – 5.171 offences

If you enjoy your booze over Christmas then make alternative arrangements to get home, Taxi’s, buses, maybe a friend who’s the designated driver and sticks to soft drinks so the rest can be driven home safely. Whatever you do have a fantastic time but stay SAFE!
